Folic acid 800 µg
Folic Acid (Also known as Folate or Vitamin B9) is a B vitamin that plays a role in the production and maintenance of new cells. Folic acid cannot be synthesized by the body and is therefore an “essential vitamin” that must be ingested as food or supplement. It is necessary for the body to make and repair DNA and RNA and to metabolize the amino acids and peptides which are required in cell division. As a medication, folic acid is used to treat folic acid deficiency and macrocytic- megaloblastic anemia (fewer but larger red blood cells). Folate intake during pregnancy has been linked to a decreased risk for neural tube defects (NTDs). These include spina bifida, encephalocele, anencephaly and iniencephaly.
Prolog Prenatal Vitamins + DHA
Prolog Prenatal Vitamins + DHA is a daily plan of comprehensive, carefully-blended vitamins and mineral supplements designed to provide nutritional support to mother and baby prior to, during, and following pregnancy. Although a good diet may meet many of the demands of pregnancy, even an excellent, well-balanced diet may lack sufficient amounts of critical nutrients. Among these, additional folic acid, calcium, iodine, iron and trace minerals will fill in nutritional gaps. Similar to multiple vitamins, prenatal vitamins provide women of childbearing age with specific nutrients that are important to help ensure a healthy mother and baby. Prenatal vitamins maybe considered a low cost nutritional insurance policy that reaps great dividends.
